This blog post is also available on Medium: Back in January, I could tell that this semester was going to be extremely stressful. I would be working on a couple of research papers, I would be a Teaching Assistant for a notoriously time-consuming class, and I would be the house manager of the co-op that I live in. So when I saw the following announcement in an e-mail, it sparked my interest:
In January 2014 I got my first serious smartphone, an iPhone. My previous phone was running Android, but the device itself was so low-end that I couldn't do much with it. Not only that, but I also didn't have a data plan! I was relying on wi-fi, which made having that smartphone even less useful.
I want to share with you some of my favorites apps (mostly for iOS, sorry Android fans) after spending a month using my iPhone nonstop; for work, entertainment, reading the news, anything. Some of those apps are the smartphone versions of OS X apps I've been using for a while. Others I was using on Android. The rest I discovered in this past month. I've split them into categories for easier browsing. By the way, I am not going to include obvious ones like Dropbox, Google Drive, Kindle, Spotify, and Facebook/Twitter/Instagram. OK, let's dive in! I'll start with "productivity" apps in this post, then move on to news, reading, and other apps in subsequent blog posts. Hi all! It's been more than 2 weeks since my last blog post, and I'm back with something.. different. Enter, the Reading List!
I dropped the ball this last week... I had amazing stories and photos from my short trip to Texas but I just couldn't find the time to write a blog post about them. I'm gonna have to be more proactive if I want to keep blogging. In the meantime, here's a great comic tribute to Nelson Mandela. It's from Gavin at zenpencils.com. Gavin creates beautiful illustrations of poems, quotes, stories, etc. I found out about him when I stumbled upon his impeccable illustration of the Greek poem "Ithaka". I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!
~Spyros Starting a blog has been like starting a diet. I was always going to start next week, next month, next semester. It's funny how, every single day since I started college, I've been thinking that next semester would be more relaxed than the current one. That next semester I would have time to exercise more, travel, and start a blog... Well, the time has come! I am now busier than ever, but I decided to just make time for a blog.
So, what's this blog going to be about? It'll be about all those things that I find interesting, "like" on Facebook, but only really share and discuss with very few close friends. I've decided to have five types of blog posts: |
